Rhapsody

Rhapsody is a 94′ motor yacht built by Paragon Motor Yachts and launched in 2009. The owner of Rhapsody brought the vessel to Lyman-Morse for an extensive interior refit, including the construction of an enclosed flybridge lounge.

Flybridge Hardtop

The new flybridge hardtop was styled to match the original that covered the open flybridge and was integrated into the radar arch; the critical difference being that the new hardtop is built from an optimized lamination schedule to reduce weight. The hardtop mold was built from CNC cut Advantech frames that interlock together to eliminate much of the manual layout to improve accuracy.

Flybridge Surround

With the original flybridge stripped down to the structural bulwark, the bulwark and deck surface were surveyed with a string digitizer to capture the horizontal shape in conjunction with a transit to accurately record elevations. The symmetry of the existing flybridge structure was less than ideal, which required the mold to be built to compensate for the discrepancy in shape. The structure of the mold was built similarly to the the hardtop mold with the additional integration of CNC carved foam inserts to form the curved corners. The forward angle of the surround and window profile were designed to match the main deck, causing the top and bottom sills of the corner windows to create a helical shape. The front and side window mold bosses were CNC cut, but the shape of the corner windows proved difficult to produce. The corner window mold bosses were 3D printed for the most efficient and accurate means of production.
